The information pavilion in Hohlen Gasse had to be taken out of service during the summer months due to malfunctions. During this time, the Hohlen Gasse administration initially worked with several specialist shops to identify the causes of the defect. The current information pavilion is around 20 years old and, despite regular maintenance, the technical equipment has reached the end of its service life.
As far as the specialist shops that were approached were interested in the job, it quickly became clear that repairing the system would only be possible at great expense in terms of time and money – and with an uncertain outcome.
Given that the Foundation Board had already decided in February 2024 to redesign the pavilion and that the preparatory planning for the implementation of this project was already largely complete, the Hohlen Gasse administration finally turned to the ‘Repair Café Bezirk Küssnacht’. Three members took on the problem with enthusiasm and, after a few hours of work, got the system up and running again. Among other things, the control system had to be reconstructed, devices repaired and electronic components clarified or researched on the internet and then replaced. One piece of equipment had to be dismantled, repaired and reassembled, as a suitable replacement was no longer available on the market. Given the age of the system, procuring replacement parts required patience and, not least, a bit of luck.
The Foundation Board is extremely grateful to the dedicated volunteers at Repair Café Bezirk Küssnacht, who work without remuneration. Without their help, the refurbishment of the current information pavilion would have been very expensive.
The audio-visual presentation is now available to visitors to the Hohlen Gasse until further notice. In the meantime, work is continuing on the design of a new interactive multimedia presentation that recounts and reflects on the story of William Tell and the impact of the Tell myth. This is scheduled to open in around two years’ time.
